It’s not always about the destination it’s about the journey. Overland Expo West 2017 was the first official event that 8K Offroad has done. This event for us was a learning experience with a year in the making from when 8K was formed it couldn’t have gone better.
Leaving Aspen at 5pm on Wednesday Ross and I brought the trailer loaded with 2 dirt bikes, the Willys, camping gear and all the swag we had. We took a quick detour to the south rim of the Grand Canyon to get a little shut eye. That morning was beautiful waking up marveling at the Grand Canyon we knew this was going to be a good weekend.
Being our first expo as venders we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Luckily we arrived early and were able to set up shop without having to maneuver the trailer around any neighbors. Ross and I set up and road some wheelies into town for some lunch.
That night we introduced our selves to our neighbors, waited for Lindsay to arrive and got a little shut eye. Friday morning came quick and with a good night sleep under our belts we finished setting up the booth as the expo came alive.
Seeing as though we did not have a product we were pushing the life style. Lindsay put a greatest hits video up on the tv that was an easy draw and our quick banter made us a hit with many passersby. Quickly we were filling up email sheets and trading stories.
Surprising to us the Working Man’s challenge was a hit. People loved seeing photos and hearing stories about our sub $1000 cars that were getting air and rallying all over the Rockies. It is not how much money you put into a rig that makes it fun. It’s the experience, the people and the places.
We gave out plenty of beer and met lots of new friends on this trip. Next year we will be back product in hand and ready to have some fun and make some great new connections.
